Jason Blum now has his hands on The Blair Witch Project, and a big screen reboot is on the way: more here.

By this stage, we can tick the popular horror franchises off as they take their place in the reboot queue. At the time of writing, The First Omen is in cinemas. We’ve had Scream reboots, a new Salem’s Lot is (finally) on the way, and decisions are being made as to the next direction for The Exorcist. Now? Let’s add The Blair Witch Project to the pile, a series that thus far covers three films, the last of which came from Adam Wingard back in 2016.

Lionsgate and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse company have just been working together on the release of Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary, and now they’ve inked a fresh deal to oversee a new Blair Witch film. Likely lots of new Blair Witch films.

The deal was done between Lionsgate’s film boss Adam Fogelson and Jason Blum. Naturally, it’s been accompanied by enthusiastic-sounding quotes.

We’ll give you Fogelson’s to give you a flavour. In the announcement, he said that “I have been incredibly fortunate to work with Jason many times over the years. We forged a strong relationship on The Purge when I was at Universal, and we launched STX with his film The Gift. There is no one better at this genre than the team at Blumhouse … We are thrilled to kick this partnership off with a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”

It’s early days, so no word of any filmmakers involved as of yet, nor how the new take on The Blair Witch Project will effectively get over the fact that the first film didn’t need a single frame extra to it (neither of the subsequent films have added to the lore of it really).

Still, we wait and see. Give it to someone like Christopher Landon to make, and happy to get excited to see it. Will keep you posted as we hear more.
