The Boys is returning for one final season and we finally know when. Here’s the latest on The Boys season 5.
The Boys season 4 was a particularly gloomy return to the world of superheroes, and it doesn’t look like the show’s final season will be any more joyful, either.
Prime Video has premiered the first trailer for The Boys season 5, which gives us a good idea of where things will be heading in the new run.

It’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen April 8 on Prime.
As you can see, we’ve also finally got a release date: 8th April will see the return of Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, Erin Moriarty and the rest of the crew for what will assuredly be a bloody final season.
The trailer also hints at the reunion of Supernatural co-stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Ackles is returning to his role as Soldier Boy in season 5, but there’s no info on Padalecki’s role. The trailer doesn’t show him with any superpowers, either – at least yet. Supernatural regular Misha Collins will also join the cast, as will Daveed Diggs.
Showrunner Eric Kripke originally announced that season 5 would be the final season of The Boys just days before season 4 premiered on Prime Video. Kripke promised fans a “gory, epic, moist climax” to the show and we have no doubt that’s exactly what we’ll be served.
The Boys season 5 will premiere on the 8th April with the first two episodes, while the remaining six instalments will air weekly. The season will conclude on the 20th May.
