The brand new The Crow trailer features ultra-violence and a lot of shirtless Bill Skarsgård. Take a peek.

Is this a safe space to admit that the first-look photos of Rupert Sanders’ The Crow remake/reboot/whatever we’re calling it, didn’t have me convinced? I wasn’t sure of the excessive, David Ayer’s Joker-esque make-up on Bill Skarsgård, and I was dreading the release of the first trailer because the 1994 film holds a special place in my heart.

Well, the first trailer for The Crow has now landed. Take a look at it below.

I don’t know about you but those worries of mine are gone now. The trailer looks phenomenal. And violent, but I’m okay with that.

Directed by Rupert Sanders, the film is a reimagining of James O’Barr’s graphic novel. Bill Skarsgård plays the role of Eric Draven, who dies and transforms into The Crow to avenge the death of his true love.

Brandon Lee previously played Eric Draven in the 1994 version, which was directed by Alex Proyas. The film was Lee’s final performance; he died on set of The Crow while filming a scene when a dummy round hit Lee in the abdomen by accident.

The 90s film has three sequels already, but the franchise has now been given a new lease on life with Sanders’ reboot. FKA Twigs, Danny Huston and Laura Birn also star in the film, which is currently eyeing a June release.

2024 is shaping up to be a big one for Skarsgård, who is also due to appear in Boy Kills World and Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu later on in the year.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Crow:

Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

The Crow is in cinemas 7th June.
