The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is less than a month away from release, and Nintendo has a third and final trailer for us to have a look at.
If nothing else, the third (and final) trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom serves as a reminder of just how lovely Hyrule looks. The Switch may be a diminutive little thing in terms of technology, but the stylised approach Nintendo’s taken to its fantasy world in Breath of the Wild and its upcoming sequel is seldom less than captivating.
With Tears of the Kingdom’s launch less than a month away, Nintendo's given the game one final promo – one that neatly bookends the gameplay reveal trailer it punted out into the world two weeks ago. Where the latter focused on all the zany, creative things we’ll be able to do with Link’s new powers, the latest trailer shows off all sorts of other set-pieces and locations. Look, Link can now ride a horse and pull a cart full of his friends!
We get a glimpse of a few boss battles and some familiar returning characters, as well as some of the more cerebral challenges Link will undertake on his latest quest. There appears to be one puzzle that involves turning a wheel to line a circular window up with a big, crystalline orb. We do like a good, crystalline orb in our games.
Most of all, the trailer cements our pet theory that there’s lots going on under the surface of Hyrule. There have been criticisms in some quarters that Tears of the Kingdom's Hyrule looks too similar to the one we encountered in 2017; but with new areas hovering in the skies above, and hints of large catacombs to explore underground, it looks as though there’ll be plenty of stuff to keep us busy here.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out on 12 May 2023 for Nintendo Switch.
