Renny Harlin’s slasher prequel The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be arriving in UK cinemas a week after its US release. More below.
On Friday, we shared the first trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1 ahead of its spring release. The film is set to grace US cinemas from 11th May, but a UK release wasn’t set in stone yet.
Well, we’re happy to report that we won’t have to wait for The Strangers: Chapter 1 for too long after US audiences see it.
We can now confirm that The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be in UK cinemas from 17th May, so we only have to dodge spoilers for a week. Not too bad considering we waited for months and months for Parasite back in 2020. Totally worth it though.
Take a look at The Strangers: Chapter 1 trailer below.
Here’s the official synopsis to jog your memory: After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorised by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in The Strangers: Chapter 1, the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series.
Harlin is a well-known name in horror. The Finnish director began his career with a flurry of horror films, including Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master and who could forget 1999’s Deep Blue Sea or 2004’s Mindhunters?
The Strangers: Chapter 1, like Die Hard 2 and Nightmare On Elm Street 4, sends Harlin to play in someone else’s cinematic universe. The 2008 original film, directed by Bryan Bertino, has become a stone cold classic and Chapter 1 aims to give us more insight into how these murderous, masked villains got their start.
Chapter 1 is only the first film in a trilogy and will be followed by Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, but the release dates for those are still unknown.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is in cinemas 17th May from Lionsgate UK.
