For a game that didnāt sell especially well on its initial release in 2006, Diablo-like action RPG Titan Quest has enjoyed a remarkably long afterlife. Gradually building an increasingly appreciative cult audience thanks to its engaging Greek mythological stylings and fun, click-heavy monster-bashing action, Titan Quest has received several expansions and ports in the years since, including 2001ās Eternal Embers. Now, publisher THQ Nordic has announced a belated sequel which, with its ancient Greek setting and talk of loot and action-RPG combat, sounds like a logical continuation of the first game rather than a radical overhaul. āReturn to the classic mythology-inspired setting of Titan Quest and go toe-to-toe with legendary monsters as you journey across a fantastical reimagining of ancient Greece,ā reads Titan Quest II's Steam page. āNemesis, Goddess of Retribution, is out of control. She is corrupting the Threads of Fate and condemning all those who oppose her to eternal punishment ā including you. Take up your weapon, fight alongside gods, and change fate itself in order to stop Nemesis, free those she’s punished, and weave your own epic tale.ā The same Steam page also talks about character customisation and the ability to create your own hybrid class, and also teases its online multiplayer component (āLike Jason and the Argonauts, sometimes you need a group of heroes for your journey,ā the description reads. One thing we really liked about the original Titan Quest were its affectionate nods to the work of filmmaker and animator Ray Harryhausen.) That trailer above doesnāt appear to show much footage from the game itself, but again, Steam is our saviour here ā there are a handful of screenshots from what looks like a functioning build, with one showing what looks like an epic fight with a massive crab. Sadly, Iron Lore Entertainment, the studio that made the first game, closed its doors long ago (in 2008, to be specific), and its expansions were handled by other developers. Similarly, Titan Quest IIās being handled by Grimlore Games, which previously made SpellForce 3 Reforced and its expansions. Titan Quest II is in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with a release date yet to be announced. In other THQ Nordic news, the publisher has also announced that grimdark action game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is in the works.
