Tom Cruise is approaching the next stage of his career, and a few details have emerged as to what direction that might take.

Tom Cruise is set to enter a new stage in his career with the release of the brace of Mission: Impossible movies that are arriving in 2023 and 2024. As Cruise looks to make an explosive exit from the action series that has formed the backbone of his career for the last decade, his stock has arguably never been higher than it is right now. The stunning, continued success of Top Gun: Maverick puts the actor in a strong spot to reposition himself as a post-action movie star, something some Cruise fans have been looking forward to ever since he shied away from such roles following a few dramatic efforts that were deemed to be ‘misses’, such as 2008’s Valkyrie.

Cruise’s longtime collaborator, Christopher McQuarrie hinted just last week that he and the actor are working on a few projects that were very different, and now a few details have emerged as to what they might be.

Deadline is reporting that the duo have three projects in the works. ‘One is an original song and dance-style musical they’ll craft as a star vehicle for Cruise. They are also setting up another original action film with franchise potential, and they are also fixated on Les Grossman.’

The latter is of course the foul-mouthed agent to the stars character who appeared briefly in the 2008 movie, Tropic Thunder.

If this is way of taking Cruise back to a wider variety of roles that he used to take on earlier in his career then we’re all for it. Cruise also has his planned space movie with Doug Liman which is set to be shot in collaboration with SpaceX in actual space, also in the works. We’ll bring you updates on any of these projects just as soon as we hear them.
