Women Talking follows the violent experience of women in a religious cult, and here’s the first trailer for the film.
Sarah Polley has made quite a name for herself behind the camera. In addition to her performances in films like The Adventures Of Baron Munchausen and Exotica, she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for her 2006 film Away From You.
Now, she’s back with another hard hitting drama, in the form of Women Talking. The story, set in 2010, follows “the women of an isolated religious community, as they grapple with reconciling their reality with their faith. Their inner conflict stems from repeated incidents of violence — and sexual violence, specifically — inflicted upon them by the men of their community, which force them to consider leaving the only world they’ve ever known”.
Rooney Mara, Claire Foy and Jessie Buckley lead the film, alongside Judith Ivey, Ben Whishaw and Frances McDormand.
Polley writes and directs, based on the novel of the same name by Miriam Toews.
Women Talking is released on the 2nd December in the US, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to see it in the UK, where it is due to be released on the 10th February 2023.
