The spin off White Bird tells the story of the antagonist from the movie and book Wonder: here’s the first trailer for the film.

Released in 2017 and based on the novel by R. J. Palacio, Wonder told the inspiring story of August Pullman, a boy with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which causes deformities of the face, and his attempts to fit it at high school. Written and directed by Perks Of Being A Wallflower scribe Stephen Chbosky and starring Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson, the film did good business, taking over $300 million on a $20 million budget.

This brings us to White Bird, not a direct sequel but a story set in the same universe, based on the graphic novel novel by Palacio.  Bryce Gheisar played bully Julian in Wonder, and he reprises the role as we see what happened to him after being expelled for his horrific bullying of August. The official synopsis reads:

“Julian has struggled to belong ever since he was expelled from his former school for his treatment of Auggie Pullman. To transform his life, Julian’s grandmother finally reveals her own story of courage. During her youth in Nazi-occupied France, a boy shelters her from mortal danger”.

Julian’s grandmother is played by Helen Mirren, while Gillian Anderson, Jo-Stone Fewings, Ariella Glaser and Orlando Schwerdt round out the cast.

Replacing Chbosky in the director’s chair is Marc Foster, with the script penned by Mark Bomback.

It is expected to be released 14th October. Watch the trailer below:
