Horror spoof The Blackening is heading to cinemas this summer, and the first trailer has landed. Horror has long been a subject of ridicule onscreen, perhaps most recently in Marlon Wayans’ The Curse Of Bridge Hollow. The Blackening is the latest to step up, and it’s set to take aim at a very specific horror trope. The official synopsis reads as follows: The Blackening centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game. The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first? The ensemble cast includes Grace ByersJermaine FowlerMelvin GreggX MayoDewayne PerkinsAntoinette RobertsonSinqua Walls, Jay Pharoah and Yvonne Orji. Tim Story directed the film from a screenplay by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. The Blackening is due to be released on the 16th June.
