The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special is landing on Disney+ in time for Christmas, and here’s the trailer.

The mere mention of the words ‘holiday special’ will send a shiver down the spine of any Star Wars fan who caught the infamous episode back in 1978. Everybody involved seems to have actively tried to bury it ever since, with no official full release on either physical media or streaming for a long time, despite Disney presumably owning the rights to put it on Disney+ should it so wish (to the extent that it did isolate the cartoon which introduces Bobba Fett from the special, which is available as part of the Star Wars collection).

Now, James Gunn – shortly to be returning to the DC parish –  is putting his own spin on this peculiar tradition with The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special, which will close out Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The special finds The Guardians still mourning the loss of Gamora. To cheer up Star Lord, they decide to try and find a way for him to meet one of his favourite actors – Kevin Bacon. (this special alone is going to do wonders for the Six Degrees Of Kevin Bacon game).

It will star franchise regulars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff and Sean Gunn.

As ever, James Gunn is behind the camera, working from his own screenplay. It will also be a reunion, as Gunn worked with Bacon on his terrific 2010 film Super.

The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special will be released on Disney+ worldwide on the 25th November. Watch the trailer below:
