Jared Leto leads the cast of TRON 3, that’s going by the name of TRON: Ares. And filming is finally set to get going…

It was back in 2010 that a filmmaker by the name of Joseph Kosinski smashed the box office record for a first time filmmaker, when Disney’s TRON: Legacy (pictured) proved to be a solid hit. Not the level of hit that Disney was perhaps looking for, but a hit nonetheless. Talk started not long afterwards about a TRON 3, but it all seemed doomed when Disney moved away from the project, and perhaps not unwisely, placed its chips on Marvel and Star Wars.

Fast forward to today, and Joseph Kosinski has gone on to be the director of the wonderful Top Gun: Maverick. Meanwhile, plans for a third TRON film have finally come to fruition. TRON: Ares is the name of the new movie, and before The Strikes Of 2023, the project was on the verge of filming. Now? Following the conclusion of said strikes, the plan is now to get things back up and running.

Joyously, Jared Leto will be leading the film, heading up an ensemble that also includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith and Greta Lee. Joachim Ronning has been attached a little while as the director, having seemingly impressed Disney with his work on the final (to date) Pirates Of The Caribbean movie.

Collider is now reporting that once the holidays are over in the US, then TRON: Ares will commence filming, although it’s still likely to be a fairly long time until we get to see it. There’s a lot of post-production visual effects work on a TRON movie, after all, so even if shooting is done by, say, next Easter, we’re looking at a 2025 release for the film at the earliest, we’d suggest.

Still: it’s definitely happening, and it looks as though Disney will be putting the movie in cinemas too. This won’t be a straight to Disney+ job.

As we hear more, we’ll let you know…
