Horror video game adaptation Until Dawn has announced its first cast members and they’re all rising stars. More on the news below.
In January, we brought you the news that the horror video game Until Dawn was getting its own film adaptation. David F. Sandberg, known for Lights Out and the Shazam! films, was announced as the director.
Now, we can reveal the first bit of casting for Until Dawn. Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion have been cast in the film, but no details on who they are playing have emerged yet. Deadline was the first to report the news.
“At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy,” said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions, Head of Product for PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Alongside Screen Gems, we’ve assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We’re excited to reveal more about the movie soon.”
The game follows a group of friends who return to the scene of a terrible tragedy, only to find themselves preyed on by a monstrous killer. They soon discover that something else lurks in the darkness as well and a maniacal killer is the least of their worries, but how many can survive until dawn?
Until Dawn was released in 2015 and received wide critical acclaim. The game is a choice-based game with multiple endings and the main goal is to keep as many characters alive as possible. If you’re like me, not many made it to dawn…
The game featured plenty of Hollywood stars as did its spiritual sequel, The Quarry, released in 2022. Rami Malek, Peter Stormare, Hayden Panettiere and Brett Dalton were among the starry cast.
The film adaptation is described as an R-rated love letter to horror, so it looks like those gnarly kills from the game won’t be toned down. Blair Butler wrote the first draft of the script but Gary Dauberman is in charge of the latest one.
Out of the young cast, Rubin was recently seen in The Idea Of You while Cimino led the cast of Hulu’s Love, Victor. A’zion was seen in the 2023 Hellraiser and features in this year’s Palme D’Or winner Anora while Yoo is set to appear alongside Pedro Pascal and Jay Ellis in the interactive film Freaky Tales.
No release window for Until Dawn yet, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated on that.
