Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick makes her directorial debut with thriller Woman Of The Hour. Here’s the trailer.
UPDATE: Netflix has released a new trailer for Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut, Woman Of The Hour. The film follows a woman (played by Kendrick) who enters a TV dating show (the US equivalent of Blind Date, basically), but what she doesn’t know is that one of the bachelors is a serial killer, Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto.
The film is set to head straight to Netflix and will appear on the service on 18th October, although it was previously thought the film would head into UK cinemas first.
Take a look at the new trailer:
There’s also a brand new poster for the film, which you can spy below.
Our original story follows…
12th August: While Anna Kendrick may be best known for leading the ensemble of the Pitch Perfect films, she’s built up an impressive filmography, including musicals like The Last Five Years and Into The Woods, comedies like 50/50 and Drinking Buddies and dramas like Up In The Air, End Of Watch and A Simple Favour. A sequel to the latter, with Kendrick, Blake Lively, director Paul Feig and screenwriter Jessica Sharzer all returning – is currently in production.
Kendrick now makes her directorial debut with thriller Woman Of The Hour – originally called The Dating Game – based on the bizarre true story of a serial killer who appeared on a dating show.
The synopsis reads as follows:
In the 1970s Rodney Alcala went on a murder spree, luring women by posing as a photographer looking for models. Though already a registered sex offender and recently released from prison, he infamously appeared on ‘The Dating Game’, a show that introduced a set of three bachelors each week, hidden from view as a woman asked them amusing questions before choosing a winner to go on an all-expenses-paid trip with her… While this confrontation serves as the spine of the film, we’re taken backward and forward through time, exploring Alcala’s murders, with a performance by Daniel Zovatto that captures the disquieting hubris of a man who knows he’s operating in a world too skewed to catch him.
Daniel Zovatto stars as Alcala, alongside Nicolette Robinson, Tony Hale, Kathryn Gallagher, Kelley Jakle and Kendrick, who plays Cheryl, the woman he wins a date with.
Kendrick directs from a screenplay by Ian MacAllister McDonald.
Woman Of The Hour will be released later in 2024. Signature Entertainment will distribute the film in the UK but a date has not been confirmed, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
