The thriller The Dating Game, based on a true story, boasts a Black List script and a terrifying setup – and Anna Kendrick.
Anna Kendrick is used to earning plaudits for her exploits onscreen, but the star of A Simple Favor will be hoping to achieve similar success from behind the camera on her next project. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Kendrick will be making her directorial debut with The Dating Game, a period thriller that explores a strange-yet-true story from the 1970s.
The film follows ‘Cheryl Bradshaw, a bachelorette candidate on hit ’70s TV matchmaking show The Dating Game who picked the funny and handsome Bachelor Number One, Rodney Alcala. But Bradshaw’s fairy-tale date takes a terrifying turn when the bachelor drops his charming façade to reveal the truth: Alcala is in fact a psychopathic serial killer.’
The script, which has been penned by Ian McDonald, made it onto the Black List, meaning it was voted as one of the best unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood. Kendrick will also produce and star as Bradshaw. It certainly seems like a role that Kendrick would excel in given her knack for playing ordinary characters who excel at being practical in extraordinary situations.
Production is set to begin in October with further casting yet to be announced. We’ll let you know more on this one as we hear it.
