Kevin Costner continues to make his Horizon movies, and Yellowstone is continuing without him, it’s been revealed.

Next week, the first of Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga movies lands in cinemas around the world, the first of four planned movies in his new collection of westerns. He had been planning to wrap these around his commitments to the massively successful TV show Yellowstone, but over the past year or so, it’s become increasingly clear that might not be the case.

Turns out it isn’t. Paramount Network and Kevin Costner both seem to have different reading of the situation, but the bottom line is that we got the first half of Yellowstone season five coming up to 18 months ago, with precious little sign of the concluding episodes. Paramount though has now announced that Yellowstone season 5 part two will begin in November of this year.

And separately to that? Kevin Costner has confirmed that he won’t be in it.

“I want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future”, he announced on social media. His full post is available here.

It’s not a massive surprise, given that Kevin Costner is away now making Horizon: An American Saga Part 3, which is presumably due for release at some point next year.

Paramount meanwhile released a brief announcement trailer for Yellowstone’s return that hadn’t mentioned Costner at all. It’s here…

No synopsis or anything at this stage. Just a return date: 10th November 2024. By then, two of Costner’s Horizon movies will have been released, and he should be coming to the end of filming the third.

More as we hear it.
