One of the directors of Andor has revealed a few details about the upcoming season two, including a returning Ben Mendelsohnā¦
A prequel to 2016ās Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Andor is set to conclude its own narrative in its second and final season, due to appear on Disney+ later this year or early next.
Writer and producer Tony Gilroy has previously confirmed that season two will lead directly into Rogue Oneās events, which implies that we might see one or two characters from the movie make an appearance in the series.
Itās something director Alonso Ruizpalacios, whoās overseeing the last three episodes in season twoās 12-part run, has confirmed in an interview with The Playlist. In fact, itās likely that the filmmaker may have given away more than he was meant to.
As he talked about the show, Ruizpalacios mentioned working with “Stellan Skarsgård, Forest Whitaker, and Ben Mendelsohn,” which is quite revealing.
While Skarsgård and Whitaker both appeared in Andorās first season ā as freedom fighters Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera respectively ā Mendelsohnās presence among the cast hasnāt been revealed before.
Mendelsohn memorably played the main villain in Rogue One: Orson Krennic, the Imperial weapons director charged with overseeing the construction of the Death Star.
Interestingly, Mendelsohn previously ruled himself out of playing Krennic again; in a February interview with Italian outlet Bad Taste, he said, āAs for being contacted by Lucasfilm for a new project, I can tell you that no, I have not been approached.ā
Itās likely, however, that Mendelsohn was only hired for Andor quite recently, and that his appearance will be comparatively brief.
Andor season two will continue the story of its title character, played by Diego Luna; set five years before Rogue One, it explores how Cassian Andor turned from a loner thief to a fully signed-up member of the Rebel Alliance.
“It’s a battle to have a revolution, and to fight back before that happens,” Gilroy told us in 2022. “It’s the five years where the Empire is feeling very confident and pulling all their power together, so it’s an oppressive regime that’s tightening the noose on everyone.”
