Doctor Who spin-off The War Between The Land And The Sea will be revealed more at the weekend, with a trailer kicking things off.
xI’m not one for usually writing pieces about a trailer on the way, just that amidst all the discussion about Doctor Who’s future doing the rounds at the moment, it’s worth noting that there’s another show on the way. This is the Disney+-backed spin-off series The War Between The Land And The Sea, which seems to have been teased in the episode Lucky Day.
Due on our screens later this year, the show stars Russell Tovey, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jemma Redgrave, Alexander Devrient, Ruth Madeley and Colin McFarlane. The UNIT crew is set to return to our screens again this Saturday with The Reality War, and showrunner Russell T Davies has now confirmed, via Instagram, that the first trailer for The War Between The Land And The Sea is debuting this weekend (whether you’re watching Doctor Who at home or in cinemas.)
It’s looking like The War Between The Land And The Sea will be the only spin-off under the current BBC/Disney+ era of the ‘Whoniverse’, although it’d certainly help matters if it was a raging critical and commercial success. Pete McTighe and Russell T Davies are overseeing the show, which is going to run for five episodes. Dylan Holmes Williams has directed all five.
Thus far, details are fairly scant, and so the upcoming trailer should fill in a few more gaps. In the meantime, we do have a synopsis from when the show was announced last summer. And we’ll leave you with that…
When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.
(Anyone else getting X-COM: Terror From The Deep vibes? Just me? I’ll get my own coat.)xx
