A small town experiences some strange events in Weapons, the new horror from Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Here’s a trailer:
Ever since Barbarian announced itself as one of the wildest “what just happened?” movies of 2022, we’ve all been patiently waiting to see what Zach Cregger would do for an encore. The years since have only built our anticipation as Warner Bros offered the filmmaker a handsome studio deal. He also was offered a chocolate box of selection of franchises, and initially picked out a new Clue film before ultimately plumping for a new take on Resident Evil instead.
That’s all just side dressing though, and what we’re all really waiting for is to see if Cregger can deliver with Weapons, his upcoming follow-up to Barbarian and a project that has been described as a ‘horror opus.’ That August release date is only a couple months away now, and as such, Warner Bros has just released a new trailer to stoke the fires of anticipation.
As we pointed out not long ago too, there’s also been the unveiling of a viral website that hints at a potential connection between Weapons and Barbarian. Could Cregger be building a whole cinematic universe or is this just misdirection? Who knows, but the cast for Weapons is very exciting indeed: including Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong and Alden Ehrenreich all feature in a project that at one point was described as a horror version of Magnolia. Quite the comparison, that.
Although the promotional material might have created an uncompromising atmosphere, Cregger has pointed out that Weapons is also intended to be a “fun movie.”
“It’s funny, it’s scary, it’s inviting,” the director told Empire. “It’s not a grim, morose slog. And yet the story it tells is really fucked up.”
Prepare yourself for Weapons to arrive on the 8th August, when the film arrives in UK cinemas. Here’s that new trailer below.
