Guy Ritchie starts filming Wife & Dog, as Paddy Considine and James Norton lead the latest additions to the cast. More here.

There’s a zillion reasons why news stories suddenly spike on the internet, not least given that much comes down to Google deciding when to wave its magic wand. Still, on this site at least, one of the stories that’s really spiked has been the news that Guy Ritchie is shooting a film called Wife & Dog this year.

As we reported here, Ritchie has brought together a cast that includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike and Anthony Hopkins. The subject matter doesn’t sound too far away from that of The Gentlemen, with basically posh and well-resourced people stabbing each other in the back.

Ritchie has penned the script, and has just started shooting Wife & Dog as well. Production got underway in the UK this very week. Not before a few more faces could be added to the cast, though.

Fresh additions to the ensemble, announced as filming going underway? They’d be Cosmo Jarvis (who had just been named as a possible last time we spoke about the movie), Paddy Considine, Pip Torrens and James Norton, all of whom have signed up to Wife & Dog in thus far undisclosed roles.

The increasingly prolific Black Bear Entertainment – currently enjoying awards attention with Conclave – is one of the companies backing the movie. For Guy Ritchie, he’s already got Fountain Of Youth and In The Grey filmed and in post-production, along with his television work. The man clearly is on three Weetabix a day, such is the speed of his output at the moment.

The likelihood is – just by nature of the queue of projects Ritchie has waiting to see the light of day – that Wife & Dog will be with us next year. By which time, at this rate, the writer/director may well have polished off another couple of films too.

More on Wife & Dog as we hear it. Google, if you and your evil computers are watching, feel free to send a boatload of people to this story too. People who have found us because Google did so: help yourself to the coffee, it’s very lovely to see you here.
