Captain America: Brave New World is finally arriving in early 2025 after lots of behind the scenes rumours ā and hereās the new trailer.
Next year will mark the release of Captain America: Brave New World. Itās an apt enough title given that this is the first cinematic outing for the character since the Cap mantle was passed from Steve Rogers to Sam Wilson, following Chris Evans retiring from the role. Anthony Mackie now steps in.
Weāve already seen Mackieās character struggle with the burden of legacy in Marvelās TV series, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier and now his character will make his big screen debut as the shield-slinging patriot in the upcoming film directed by Julius Onah, who co-wrote the script with Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson.
Itās no secret that the production has been the subject of plenty of gossip about behind the scenes trouble, but Marvel Studios wonāt care about any of that if the movie comes out, is well received and scores decent box office numbers. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is in a delicate place right now, although the numbers from Deadpool And Wolverine donāt hurt. But should Kevin Feige wish to convince us all of the MCUās long-term health, youād imagine that a successful Captain America movie would be a baseline requirement for accepting that logic.
Subject to several delays, Brave New World has had a change of writer and a round of extensive reshoots, said to be to improve the quality of its action sequences. Those reshoots are rumoured to have cost Marvel Studios somewhere in the region of $100m and as such, thereās bound to be plenty of speculation as to how much this film will have to make to end up in the black.
Thereās definitely some interesting elements in here that weāre curious to experience though: Harrison Ford doing an MCU turn; Giancarlo Esposito putting in what looks like his usual excellent work, not to mention Tim Blake Nelson and Liv Tyler also reprising their roles as Marvel villain Samuel Sterns/Leader and Betty Ross, 15 years after The Incredibe Hulk landed in the early days of Marvel Studios films.
Even the trailer has something of a distinct style to it, indicating that Marvel are perhaps keen to signal a departure from the āformulaā style that served them it well until audiences eventually tired of it.
