Tom Hanks stars as Fred Rogers in new biopic A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood – and here’s the trailer.
Sure to be talked about when people start giving out gongs later this year is Marielle Heller’s new movie, A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood. Heller, who came to the movie off the back of the excellent Can You Ever Forgive Me?, works from a screenplay by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Hampster.
Starring Tom Hanks and Matthew Rhys, the film follows the legendary American children’s TV star Mr Rogers, played by Hanks, and the magazine writer assigned to profile him, played by Rhys. Sony is putting the film out, and its new trailer is aimed at non-American audiences less familiar with Mr Rogers.
Here’s that promo…
The synopsis reads as follows…
Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about kindness, love and forgiveness from America’s most beloved neighbor.
And the movie lands in UK cinemas on January 31st.
