James Mangoldās Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown stars Timothée Chalamet, and will be arriving on Christmas Day in the US.
When it was revealed last month (alongside a trailer for the upcoming film) that James Mangoldās A Complete Unknown would be arriving in cinemas in 2024, a few eyebrows went up. The project began filming back in March (according to IMDb) and wrapped near the end of June.
Still, Mangold can be a quick worker when it comes to the post-production stage of filmmaking, depending on the film of course. Whilst Le Mans ā66 took a year to make it through the editing room, his other musical biopic ā 2005ās Walk The Line ā released in cinemas six months after entering the post-production phase and it looks like the filmmaker will be doing the same again here.
A Christmas Day release has been set for A Complete Unknown in the US, and here in the UK, an undated December slot is in place.
Chalamet will play Dylan and apparently be singing himself, something he did in last yearās Wonka to crowd-pleasing effect. Also joining Chalamet will be Edward Norton as Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Dan Fogler as Albert Grossman, P.J. Byrne as Harold Leventhal, Norbert Leo Butz as Alan Lomax, Will Harrison as Bob Neuwirth and Scoot McNairy as Woody Guthrie.
Dylan himself is said to have approved the project which is coming to us courtesy of Searchlight Pictures.
After A Complete Unknown completes its press circuit, weād imagine that Mangold will be moving onto his Star Wars project, a film which is said to chart the very origins of The Force. That one probably wonāt be edited in six months, weād imagine. Hopefully, we wonāt lose Mangold to A Galaxy Far, Far Away for too long though.
As for A Complete Unknown, weāll leave you with a synopsis and the trailer below ahead of the filmās confirmed release in late December.
“New York, early 1960s. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives in the West Village with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. As he forms his most intimate relationships during his rise to fame, he grows restless with the folk movement and, refusing to be defined, makes a controversial choice that culturally reverberates worldwide.”
