Muppet creator Jim Henson left us way, way too soon – and the story of his life is set to be told in a new Disney documentary feature.

The story of the iconic Jim Henson – the incredible creative force behind the likes of The Muppets, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal and a whole lot more – has already been told in an extensive biography (that you can find here). Now though, with the cooperation of the Henson family, his tale is set to be told in a new documentary feature.

Ron Howard is set to direct, and Brian Grazer will produce, with Disney backing the project. The official announcement says that the resultant film “will present a fascinating and intimate look at Jim’s illustrious career creating treasured characters and revolutionizing television and film. With never-before-seen personal archives, the film will give audiences an exciting first-person view into the life of one of the world’s most inspiring and iconoclastic creators through exclusive home movies, photographs, sketches and Henson’s personal diaries”.

The archive of The Jim Henson Company is being thoroughly raided for the film, and whilst there’s no word yet on when the movie will be available, we can but cross our fingers that it’s all done to the standard that the late, great Henson deserves.

More, of course, as we hear it.
