The upcoming Elvis & Priscilla biopic helmed by Sofia Coppola has cast its two leading roles in what is set to be an illuminating take on the Presleys’ relationship.

Baz Luhrmann’s take on the Elvis Presley story released earlier this year, replete with the filmmaker’s usual bombast. It picked up good reviews and did well at the box office too. Like any rock and roll icon, Elvis Presley’s life was not without controversy, namely the circumstances in which he met and wooed his future wife, Priscilla Presley when he was 24 and she was just 14.

Whilst Luhrmann’s film quickly glossed over that fact, Sofia Coppola’s upcoming take on Elvis might just be looking to tackle the subject head-on. The film is called Priscilla and will focus on the Presley’s relationship, rather than the star’s career as a whole. Furthermore, the project will be using Priscilla Presley’s 1985 book, Elvis And Me as the source material. Presley wrote extensively in the book about how her relationship with Elvis began, as well as detailing their subsequent marriage and eventual divorce.

Casting for the project has now been announced, with Cailee Spaeny set to play Priscilla and Jacob Elordi playing Elvis.

Spaeny featured in 2018’s enjoyable ensemble thriller Bad Times At The El Royale whilst Elordi is one of the stars of TV’s Euphoria and will next be seen in Saltburn, Emerald Fennell’s upcoming follow-up to Promising Young Woman.

The production will mark Sofia Coppola’s third collaboration with A24 following  On the Rocks and The Bling Ring. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
