Could Jim Carrey be returning to detect more pets? A further Ace Ventura: Pet Detective movie is now in the works.
Jim Carrey was at the peak of his box office powers by the time Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls came along. One of the few sequels that he ever made, the movie’s box office performance cemented him as Hollywood’s newest star. This was a couple of years after the original movie had pretty much turned him into a star overnight, too.
Morgan Creek is the production company behind the two films to date (we don’t count the belated ‘Junior’ spin-off), and it’s now broken the news, courtesy of a chat with Park Circus, that Ace Ventura 3 is now very much on the way. Furthermore, it’s developing the project alongside Amazon, presumably for its Prime Video service.
It’s reported that Pat Casey and Josh Miller – who penned the recent Sonic The Hedgehog movie, that also starred Jim Carrey – are working on the screenplay for Ace Ventura 3. The great unknown will be whether Carrey himself will be tempted to reprise a character he’s not played for over 25 years.
More news on this one as we hear it. The second Sonic movie is currently shooting, and it’s assumed that Carrey is involved with that.
