There’s a new British horror film on the horizon! Aaran McKenzie is currently filming his feature film Afterglow in Yorkshire and the film could use your support.
Here’s a short synopsis for the film: The film follows 17-year-old Ava, who discovers an experimental drug that allows people to spend 5 minutes with someone they’ve lost. What begins as a chance to reconnect with her dead mother quickly develops into something much darker.
Afterglow will mark McKenzie’s transition into directing features after a career in short filmmaking and editing. He is also the founding member of the band While She Sleeps!

Afterglow will combine “psychological terror, emotional realism, and supernatural dread into a deeply unsettling story about loss and the devastating consequences of refusing to let go.”
2026, more than any other year, has really shown the potential in horror films. Curry Barker’s Obsession and Kane Parsons’ Backrooms really set the box office on fire and Exit 8 also very much tickled our fancy and we’ve still got Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil to look forward to, not to mention DC Studios’ Clayface.
But it’s often films like Afterglow where you find the biggest, best scares and the talent to watch. The production has already completed a significant amount of filming, but there’s still roughly 15 days of shooting remaining and this is your chance to support British independent genre filmmaking.
Afterglow has a crowdfunding campaign still active and you can support the project through that. Find it HERE!
