Disney’s upcoming reboot of Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day appears to have a slightly different title, according to a Copyright Office entry.

Here’s a mildly interesting snippet of news for you. First announced in 2020, Disney’s reboot of Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day has been in the works for some time now. Another film based on Judith Viorst’s popular children’s book (the first one, pictured above, came out in 2014), it differs from the original by making its central family Latinx.

According to an entry on the US Copyright Office, this upcoming reboot has a slightly different, albeit entirely logical, title. It’s called Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

The entry also confirms that Marvin Lemus is directing the new movie, and that the cast will include Thomas Nemer (who plays the titular Alexander), Eva Longoria, Jessie Garcia, Cristo Fernandez and the great Cheech Marin.

A synopsis, which is the same one Disney has put out before, reads, “A Mexican-American family, who have recently lost their connection to each other and their roots, embarks on an epic road trip that goes hilariously wrong. Only Alexander, the supposedly ‘cursed’ member of this family, can find a way to bring everyone back together.”

The Copyright Office listing also says that the film’s anticipated completion date was February of this year, which, assuming everything’s still on track, means the new Alexander… (no, we’re not typing all that out again) is likely to be in post-production.

Deadline reported in 2023 that Longoria and Garcia will play Alexander’s parents, Val And Frank, Paulina Chavez will play his teenage sister, while Rose Portillo will play his grandmother. The film is said to be going straight to Disney+, but there’s no release date announced at the time of writing.

Fun fact: the 2014 version of Alexander…, which starred Ed Oxenbould as Alexander and Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner as his parents, was co-produced by The Jim Henson Company, and was the first of their films not to feature any Muppets. Just thought we’d mention it.
