Horror TV spin-off Alien: Earth season 2 is still filming, with Tracey Ullman, Jerome Flynn (pictured) and Sam Spruell now added to the cast.
Update: Filming continues on Alien: Earth season 2, and the casting director appears to be picking additional cast members by throwing darts at a Game Of Thrones fanzine. Peter Dinklage was cast in April, while Variety now reports that Sam Spruell and Jerome Flynn, both actors with connections to Game Of Thrones, have also joined the line-up.
Spruell starred in A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, a Game Of Thrones spin-off, though he may have been cast because he worked with Noah Hawley on the Alien: Earth showrunner’s earlier hit series, Fargo.
Jerome Flynn will be known to many as Bronn off of Game Of Thrones, but his list of credits is long – he’s also appeared in the likes of Black Mirror, John Wick 3 and the hit 1990s British TV series, Soldier Soldier.
Perhaps the most surprising addition to the cast so far is Tracey Ullman, the multi-talented actor and comedian whose career began in the 1980s. She was particularly successful in America, where The Tracey Ullman Show inadvertently gave the world The Simpsons (it began as a series of hurriedly-animated little segments that wrapped around the ad breaks). She’s been busy ever since, having appeared in Ally McBeal, Curb Your Enthusiasm and a recent series named Mrs America.
With Adrian Edmondson returning for Alien: Earth season 2 (along with Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin and much of the first run’s cast), the show’s gradually turning into a miniature 80s comedian reunion. But mostly a Game Of Thrones reunion.
Because you’re humble writer’s as old as Methuselah, though, that brief period where Jerome Flynn became a pop star (with Soldier Soldier actor Robson Green) keeps springing to mind. Alien: Earth always liked its needle drops, so expect to hear this close out a new episode on a TV near you soon…
