Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for its tenth birthday: more on the release here.

It’s been nearly ten years since the release of Clint Eastwood’s biggest film at the US box office, the Bradley Cooper-headlined American Sniper. Based on the true story of Chris Kyle, played by Cooper in the film, the movie grossed a staggering $350m at the American box office, and earned Oscar nominations too, including one for Best Picture.

That particular year in fact, the entirely neutral folks at Fox News ran the headline when Birdman took home Best Picture at the Oscars something along the lines that ‘American Sniper loses Best Picture’.

Wherever you stand on the film, and it’s got a lot of qualities, it’s also the movie where Clint Eastwood got fed up waiting for a realistic baby, and just used a doll instead. Here, to refresh your memory, is the infamous ‘fake baby’ moment…

Anyway: Warner Bros is saluting the birthday of the movie by bringing it to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the first time. It’s set for the spring – we’re waiting for the exact date – and in the first instance it’s available to order in a posh set.

The Ultimate 10th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of American Sniper arrives in a Steelbook case, and as well as the film on 4K disc, there’s a Blu-ray to presumably carry over previous extra features. Then, in the posh set, there’s a double-sided A3 poster, art cards, and a 32 page booklet as well.

The film is available to preorder on 4K disc now, and you can find more information on the release here as well.

We’ll leave you for now with the synopsis…

Chris Kyle’s (Bradley Cooper) mission is to protect his brothers in arms while being a prime target of insurgents. Despite the danger, as well as the toll on his family at home, Chris serves through four harrowing tours of duty in Iraq, personifying the spirit of the SEAL creed to “leave no one behind.” But upon returning to his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller), and kids, Chris finds that it is the war he can’t leave behind.
