As John Wick spin-off Ballerina goes back before the cameras, the cast expands for the movie, which is now set for release in 2025.

Earlier this year came the news that that first John Wick spin-off movie, Ballerina, was being delayed for a full year. Originally set for release this summer, and with a fan trailer already doing the rounds, Ballerina has now been put back to mid-2025. That’s to build in time for what sounds like fairly sizeable reshoot work.

Len Wiseman has directed the movie, and John Wick’s Chad Stahelski is now reportedly helping with fresh action sequences for the film (working in conjunction with Wiseman on them, too). We also get news too that the reshoots are adding at least two new roles as well.

David Castaneda, of The Umbrella Academy, is taking one of them. Sharon Duncan-Brewster of Sex Education is taking the other. They’ll join an ensemble that’s led by Ana de Armas, with Anjelica Huston, Garbiel Byrne, Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick also in the line-up.

Reshoot work by the sounds of it is now underway, or at the very least about to get underway. Filming originally took place back in July 2022, so by the time we actually see the movie, it’s going to be the best part of three years since the first shots were in the can.

Still, reshoots are no reason to panic, and lots of films have gone through a similar process and come out the other end in fine shape.

For the minute, most of the film remains under wraps, short of one official logline that appears to have popped up: ‘a young female assassin seeks revenge against the people who killed her family.’

We probably could have guessed that, too. Shay Hatten has penned the script, and we’ll have more on Ballerina as we hear it. They’ve got to get the reshoots done first, though…
