Production on Mission: Impossible 8 has restarted in the UK, with star Tom Cruise once again throwing himself into the practical stunt work.
We’ve heard stories of late that Tom Cruise is looking to make a career swerve in the not too distant future with the plan being to start interspersing his usual action roles with more dramatic parts. We’ve already heard that Cruise will be working with Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu on a future project, and there are rumours linking him with Quentin Tarantino’s next film too.
That’s all in the future though, and as of right now, we’d imagine that all of Cruise’s focus is on the next Mission: Impossible film which has finally got back into production after the actors’ strike last year threw the film’s complicated shooting schedule into disarray. Even better, it’s shooting in the UK, which is a welcome bit of news given that the British film industry is struggling to get back on its feet and a giant production the size of Mission: Impossible 8 will provide plenty of work for lots of folks.
Production is taking place in Derbyshire, and the setup looks suitably stunty for Cruise and his talented stunt team to work some magic. We won’t tell you what they are up to as not to spoil the film but it certainly looks fun. However, loyal fans of Derbyshire, don’t get your hopes up too high that the region will be making its long-awaited debut in the Mission: Impossible universe. In the last film, we saw Birmingham and the Lake District feature, but only as stand-ins for far-flung exotic locations.
The film is set to release in summer of next year, with location shooting in Africa and the Arctic already completed. Having shed itself of its former title, the film formerly known as Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2 is thankfully no longer going by that rather unwieldy title and will be given a new name at some point later this year, we’d imagine. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
