Bottoms star Ayo Edebiri will be making her directorial debut with an episode of The Bear season 3. More on that story below.

Ayo Edebiri plays the role of the talented chef Sydney in the hit TV show The Bear, which is currently filming its third season. The series, which began in 2022 and also stars Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss Bachrach, has been hugely successful with critics, audiences and awards bodies alike so far.
Edebiri was recently profiled by Vogue, and buried in the article is the fact that Edebiri is officially making the move to directing in The Bear’s upcoming season. There’s no info on what episode she will direct, but then again, all plot details of season three are still under wraps.
What we do know is that season three will deal with the fallout of the season two finale, which finally saw the titular fine dining restaurant open. The opening wasn’t without drama, however, as Carmy (White) accidentally locked himself in a walk-in fridge and Marcus missed several calls from his ailing mother’s nurse.
In the Vogue piece, Edebiri talks about her first meeting with The Bear creator Christopher Storer.
“The first time I met Chris, I was 21, and he was like, ‘You’re a director.’ I was like, Mind your business, bro,” she told Vogue.
Storer encouraged Edebiri to come on set to see how things work behind the scenes and Edebiri observed the action every day. “And I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah. I think I want to do this’,” she said.
Edebiri is currently one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, thanks to her recent Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice and SAG awards for her role as Sydney. After voicing characters in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, she’ll also be heard in this summer’s Inside Out 2 in which she voices Envy.
Edebiri recently backed out of Marvel’s The Thunderbolts, but joined A24’s new horror film Opus.
The Bear season three is expected to stream on Hulu in the US this June. There’s no official US date but both seasons one and two arrived after their US debuts.
