The aptly-titled Back in Action will see Cameron Diaz return to acting after an eight year hiatus.
Cameron Diaz will soon be returning to our screens following eight years of retirement, it’s been revealed. Diaz, who last appeared in Annie alongside Jamie Foxx in 2014, will return to acting to star once more with Foxx in Back In Action, an action comedy set for Netflix.
Little else is known about the project at this point, apart from the reveal that it will be directed by Seth Gordon, helmer of Horrible Bosses. Production is set to begin later this year. Back In Action will mark the third onscreen collaboration between Diaz and Fox following 2014’s Annie and 1999’s Any Given Sunday, the Oliver Stone American Football film.
Diaz returning to acting and first appearing on Netflix will no doubt be a coup for the embattled streaming platform as it struggles to convince audiences that the films it produces are worth paying a premium subscription price for. (We have some thoughts about that here.) However that pans out, we’re just happy to hear that Diaz is bringing her undoubted talents to the screen once more and keen to see what performances and roles this next phase of her career holds. We’ll bring you more on Back In Action as we hear it.
