If you weren’t a fan of the G I Joe movies, then rest assured that one of their stars – Channing Tatum – is completely with you on it.

As he continues to promote his new film, Magic Mike’s Last Stand, Channing Tatum has been opening up about his less-than-enthused involvement in the G I Joe films. He appeared both movies that were made in the saga back just over a decade ago, and by the sounds of it, didn’t want to be in either of them.

Tatum reveals that he was contracted to do the first film with Paramount, but that he tried to get out of it. “The first one [that’d be The Rise Of Cobra] I passed on seven times”, he confirmed, “but they had an option on me and I had to do the movie”.

Thus, he did. He was thrilled.

Thing is, he turned up in the sequel as well, G I Joe: Retaliation, and was clearly just as keen. In fact, he tried to wriggle out of that one as well, in the end asking if they could kill his character off quickly. No spoilers here as to what happened there. Tatum says he has no regrets.

Tatum was chatting to Vanity Fair for the interview in question, and you can see the full conversation here. The G I Joe films are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Channing does not recommend them.
