Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Criminal is an upcoming thriller series in the works at Prime Video ā and itās just signed up Game Of Thrones and Last Christmas star Emilia Clarke in a leading role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Clarke will play a hardened criminal named Mallory, whoās āas quick with a gun as she is with her wits.ā
Mallory is one half of a bank robbing duo, with her partner being the appropriately-named Ricky Lawless, played by Gus Halper.
āMallory is a woman on the edge,ā the plot description goes, āliving on the wrong side of the law and hiding secrets that will bring her and her crew into the danger zone.ā
Also among the cast are Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona ā recently seen in Netflixās Hit Man ā Richard Jenkins and John Hawkes.
Written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Sean Philips, Criminal was originally published in 2006 and spanned 36 issues released in five volumes. It took in a range of characters on the wrong side of the law, all connected by the seriesā fictional city location. Full of noirish suspense, the section involving Mallory and Ricky formed only a small part of a much broader tapestry, and the TV series is set to follow a similar crime anthology format.
Hunnam is said to be playing Leo, āa master thief who sees all the angles, and specialises in plans with guns and no violence,ā according to Deadline's report from May.
Filmmaking duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Captain Marvel, Mississippi Grind) are directing the first four episodes for Amazon MGM Studios. Thereās no word on when Criminal will stream, but weāll let you know if a date emerges.
