Due in cinemas this week, Jason Statham thriller Mutiny suddenly appeared on Prime Video in the US – before being swiftly removed.
Here’s a quintessentially 2026 tech-entertainment hybrid story for you. Jason Statham has a new action thriller in cinemas both in the US and UK this week: Mutiny, directed by Jean-Francois Richet. But over in the US, it appears to have been accidentally uploaded to Prime Video – several weeks before it was supposed to make its streaming debut.
Over on The Verge, a screenshot clearly shows Mutiny on Prime Video’s platform, listed as ‘Recently Added’. The outlet managed to find the film on the app itself and confirm that all one hour and 35 minutes of Statham’s action banquet was able to be viewed.
Mutiny was available on Prime Video for approximately one hour on the 19th August. Then someone at Amazon must have realised the error and pulled the entry down. It’s now listed simply as ‘unavailable’. (A search for the film on the UK version of the platform reveals nothing but variations of Mutiny On The Bounty – probably because its release on these shores will be handled by Sky Cinema.)
So what on earth happened? As The Verge points out, it doesn’t appear to have been some sort of publicity stunt. Our best guess – and that’s all it is – is that someone at Amazon got its one-word Statham action thrillers muddled up.
The hard-working star had another film appear on Prime Video a matter of weeks ago – Shelter, in which he plays a former operative who lives in a lighthouse, was uploaded in June.
Mutiny has a similarly watery theme. Statham IS Cole Reed, a private security guy who, having been framed for the murder of his billionaire boss, digs into what happened and ends up on a big boat. The script is by JP Davis and Lindsay Michel, while the other actors in the picture include Annabelle Wallis, Jason Wong, Roland Moller and Adrian Leser.

Mutiny is out in UK cinemas from the 21st August 2026. Its digital release hasn’t yet been announced.
