The infamous 1995 pirate adventure Cutthroat Island has enjoyed a 4K remaster, and is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Here’s a bit of a turn up: the 1995 seafaring action-adventure Cutthroat Island is heading to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK this September.
The movie is an infamous one: starring Geena Davis and Matthew Modine, and directed by Renny Harlin, is was the production that ultimately put the iconic independent studio Carolco out of business. A box office disappointment, Carolco disappeared shorty after, and a tag of disappointment has been worn by Cutthroat Island ever since. It certainly put people off making pirate and sea-based movies for nearly a decade, until Disney decided to give the Pirates Of The Caribbean films a go.
Where does this leave Cutthroat Island? Well, there’s rarely been a better chance to see if the film is better than it’s given credit for. The 4K disc is landing on September 18th 2023. You can find more information on it here, and you can find a Steelbook version here too.
No news on extra features as of yet. Hopefully, there’ll be lots. We’ll keep you posted either way.
