The Eddie Murphy-headlined Christmas comedy Candy Cane Lane will reunite the team behind 1992’s Boomerang.

Eddie Murphy is having something of a(nother) career renaissance. After a few box office flops, perhaps most notably The Adventures of Pluto Nash and Norbit, Murphy went in a dramatic direction, earning an Screen Actors Guild nomination for his role in Dreamgirls. A few more flops followed, but now the likes of Mr Church and Dolomite Is My Name have built things up a little again. More recently he has been returning to his comic roots, writing and starring in the belated sequel Coming 2 America. The film was such a success on Prime Video, Murphy is reteaming with the service for his next project.

Although plot details for Candy Cane Lane are under wraps for now, what we do know is that it is a festive comedy scripted by Muppets writer Kelly Younger and it will reunite Murphy with director Reginald Hudlin, with whom he made 1992’s Boomerang. Murphy is also producing the film alongside Brian Grazer.

No release date has yet been announced, but when it comes it will be released via Amazon Prime Video. As production begins this winter then it’s a fair bet we can expect to see this one around Christmas 2023. Murphy will next be seen later this year alongside Jonah Hill and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in You People for Netflix.
