Netflix is developing a script for a third Enola Holmes film as confirmed by Scott Stuber, the streamer’s Head of Film.
More Enola Holmes is in our future! Enola Holmes 3 is officially in the works, as reported exclusively by Collider.
The project is still at script stage so it’ll still be a while before we have any kind of casting news, plot summaries or even a release date. Yet, for Enola fans, this is great news!
The first film, following the adventures of the titular character, was a huge hit for Netflix, and genuinely, a pretty good film! The second one also garnered decent reviews, but the response was arguably more muted. Enola Holmes 2 conveniently did leave things open enough if a third film were to be greenlit at Netflix.
Netflix’s Head of Film, Scott Stuber, spoke to Collider about the franchise’s and Millie Bobby Brown’s future at the streaming giant.
“You know, she’s such a great homegrown star for us. I mean, obviously, Stranger Things is huge for us in that, and watching her grow as an actress. We have a film called Damsel with her in the spring, which I’m really excited about, [from] Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. Then, getting that character right. The Holmes IP is weirdly elastic. Obviously, Warner Bros. did an incredible job with Downey and Jude Law, so this idea that we can extend that IP with her is exciting. So, we’re working once again on a screenplay to try to get that. But yes, aspiration. I’d like to do another one.”
At the end of the second film, Enola had opened her very own detective agency in London and her budding relationship with Tewksbury (Louis Partridge) was also getting off to a good start.
The franchise also stars Henry Cavill as Enola’s slightly more famous older brother, some guy called Sherlock. Cavill has recently left Netflix’s The Witcher series and while it seemed he would return to DC to portray Superman after a promising cameo at the end of Black Adam, James Gunn’s new plans have arguably freed Cavill’s schedule up quite a bit, making his involvement in Enola Holmes 3 very likely.
As said, the project is still in very early stages, but we’ll keep you updated on any Enola Holmes -related news.
