Nicole Kidman is heading back to Amazon Studios to headline the thriller Holland, which will see her take on a town full of dark secrets.

After starring as Lucille Ball in Amazon’s Being The Ricardos in 2021, earning her an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win in the process, Nicole Kidman has reunited with Amazon MGM to produce and star in Holland, what has been dubbed as a Hitchcockian thriller.

The script, written by Andrew Sodroski, topped 2013’s Black List, the film industry’s countdown of the best unproduced screenplays.

Hereā€™s a brief synopsis for the film, which was formerly titled Holland, Michigan:

ā€˜A womanā€™s picture-perfect life in quaint Holland, Michigan crumbles, when she and a friend uncover a twisted secret in their midst.ā€™

Mimi Cave, who helmed a really fun hit with 2022ā€™s Fresh in her last directorial outing, is in the directorā€™s chair. Weā€™ve seen Kidman appear in this type of narrative set-up lots of times before, and sheā€™s always absorbing to watch as the world around her character shifts into something unexpected. One recent example is a thriller of a different sort ā€“ director Harris Dickensonā€™s Babygirl, released in January.

The thriller sees the actor and producer in the role of Nancy Vandergroot, a Stepford Wives-like character in a tulip and windmill-filled town who has a community pillar husband, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and Jude Hill as her son. Nancy and her friend, played by Gael García Bernal, begin to wonder if the Michigan town has a secret, only to find out that ā€˜nothing in their lives is what it seems.ā€™

The film releases on Amazonā€™s Prime Video streaming platform on March 27th. You can catch the trailer below.
