Ethan Coen’s follow-up to Drive Away Dolls – Honey, Don ‘t – has begun production, ahead of a teased return to filmmaking with his brother Joel.

While some may bemoan that fact that the Coen brothers aren’t currently making films together, there’s been plenty to enjoy from each brother during the hiatus that the two filmmakers have taken from their decades-long partnership.

Joel’s icy take on Shakespeare, The Tragedy Of Macbeth was certainly something to behold whilst Ethan’s recently-released lesbian road movie, Drive Away Dolls was pulpy fun, if you let yourself get carried away by the film’s charm.

Whilst the Coen brothers are said to once again be working on something collaborative, Ethan first has the follow-up to Drive Away Dolls to handle, with cameras now rolling on the production which is said to be the second film in a planned trilogy.

The project was announced back in January with quite the cast too: a leading trio of Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans are set to star, and while we don’t know too much, ‘the story is set in Bakersfield, California. Qualley (who stars in Drive-Away Dolls) will play a private eye, Plaza will star as a mysterious woman and Evans will portray the leader of a cult.’

Back in January we heard that the film would be shooting in New Mexico, although according to World Of Reel, cameras have begun rolling in California. Whether that’s a change of plans or simply part of the shooting schedule that was previously unannounced is unclear.

Either way, production is underway and we can expect to see the film wrapped by May. There’s no release date yet set but the biggest question is whether Ethan will complete this trilogy of B movie films that he has co-wrote with his wife, Tricia Cooke, before returning to work once again with Joel.

The brothers’ next film is said to be a ‘very bloody horror film’ which sounds great to us but we wonder if Ethan might try to squeeze in one more of these movies before reuniting once more with his brother. Time will tell and rest assured that we’ll let you know more as we hear it.
