Vin Diesel says he’s wept reading the script, and he might direct. But it seems that Fast Forever might not be in the state he’s been suggesting.
In the parallel universe in which Vin Diesel appears to be living when it comes to the next Fast & Furious film, everything appears to be going swimmingly.
In his eyes, Fast Forever has been greenlit by Universal Studios, a part of it has been shot, the script is so good that he wept reading it, and the movie will be out in the spring of 2028. Oh, and that he might direct it.
In the world in which the rest of us live, things might just be a little bit different.
It’s been one of the more bizarre film stories to follow over the past year or two, as Diesel takes to his Instagram account to give us progress news, that’s soon refuted.
As per a new report that’s popped up, it’s now been suggested that there’s no finished script at all in place, and that there hasn’t been at any point. Furthermore, Fast X director Louis Leterrier, who had been expected to return for Fast Forever, is no longer on board.
None of this has been officially confirmed, but then it’s a case of two competing rumour mills here.
What’s clear is that no footage has been shot as of yet for a movie that’s due in cinemas in March 2028. Given the complexity of shooting a Fast & Furious film, even if it started filming tomorrow it’d struggle to hit that date. The rumour now is that filming can’t begin until early 2028 at the very earliest.
Perhaps Diesel, the man involved with the franchise who has the loudest microphone, is trying to will his version of the film into being. I’m genuinely fascinated, if there wasn’t a completed script, just what he was reading that made him cry so much. Perhaps the AI summary of the film’s progress over the past year or so.
Either way, there’s still the feeling that Fast & Furious 11 will happen at some point. But who’s writing, who’s directing and when it’ll be out? I’m not sure I’d ask Vin for answers to any of those…
