The Scream franchise is always one that draws a great deal of attention and with horror in the middle of a golden era of terror, the return of this enduring franchise is one that podcaster Baz Greenland wanted to mark, hence the first spin-off from the Modern Horror podcast – Modern Horror Screams.
Starting with a look at the new Scream 7 from Kevin Williamson, Baz will work his way through the series from Wes Craven’s seminal 1996 reinvention, via the recent ‘legacyquels’, and with a few stops on the way to analyse the broader impact and mythology of the series.
He discusses his reasoning for taking the project on: “I’m a huge horror movie fan and slasher movies in particular. I fell in love with Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm St and Hellraiser from about the age of 16, and Scream arrived right in the middle of my slasher movie education. I’ve watched the Scream movies countless times. It’s one of the rare franchises where there isn’t a bad movie and it’s been a joy to revisit each entry in detail for this podcast. I’ve had some amazing guests and some amazing discussions on Modern Horror Screams and I can’t wait for everyone to listen to them.”
Network chief AJ Black, who appears on the introductory episode, added: “When Baz and I discussed this while having dinner in Cardiff last summer, I knew this would be an instant winner as a short, sharp stab (see what I did there?) into one of horror’s most revolutionary and enduring franchises. Baz, as ever, brims with enthusiasm for his subject matter and with his guests brings depth, analysis and humour to his exploration of it. It’s going to be a murderously good extension of Modern Horror.”
Modern Horror Screams is a limited 10-part podcast series which begins with a primer episode of the franchise before launching into all of the films in depth, plus don’t miss on March 4th Baz appear on Modern Horror discussing Scream 4-7 as part of the introduction of the show.
