Disney boss Bob Iger has confirmed that the studio has plans for Frozen 4, even though Frozen 3 isn’t even out yet.

Disney CEO Bob Iger stopped by Good Morning America to talk about Disney’s latest theme park land, World Of Frozen, but the attention has shifted on something else Iger announced during the popular morning show.

“Well, I’ll give you a little surprise there, Michael. Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works too,” Iger told Good Morning America co-anchors Robin Givens and Michael Strahan, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter

The words “might be” feel pretty crucial here. Disney hasn’t officially greenlit a fourth instalment of the animated franchise as of yet and since Frozen 3 has barely begun production, we’re guessing there’s perhaps only a basic idea for a fourth film at this point.

“But Jenn Lee, who created Frozen — the original Frozen and Frozen 2 — is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories… A little scoop,” Iger added, alluding to Jennifer Lee, the chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Lee was recently in London for a talk at the BFI London Film Festival where she revealed work had begun on Frozen 3, but news of Frozen 4 is… well, news.

Frozen and Frozen 2 both grossed over $1bn at the global box office, so we’re not exactly surprised that Disney would be keen on more Frozen films. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel voice royal sisters Anna and Elsa, the latter who possesses some icy powers. The original Frozen was a play on The Snow Queen story.

Lee is currently busy with her commitments to Wish, Disney’s latest film, which is set to hit cinemas on 23 November. While not directing, Lee is responsible for the film’s script. Wish, which is part of Disney’s 100-year celebrations, stars Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine in the lead voice roles.

No release date for Frozen 3 or Frozen 4 yet, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated. Now excuse us, we’re off to listen to ‘Let It Go’ on a loop for the next three hours. The cold never bothered us anyway.
