The Continental is a three-part prequel to the John Wick franchise, and it’s heading to TV this autumn. More here.

John Wick is synonymous with two things – Keanu Reeves and astonishing fight sequences. The fourth instalment, released earlier this year, was lauded as one I’d the best action films of the year.

The Continental explores the now iconic titular hotel for assassins in the 1970s. The synopsis reads as follows:

1970s New York – where it all began. The three-part event series will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centrepiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970’s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.

Colin Woodell stars as a young Winston Scott, the role played by Ian McShane in the films. The cast also features Mel Gibson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada, Nhung Kate, Ben Robson and Peter Greene.

The show was developed by Greg Coolidge and Kirk Ward, who also serve as showrunners, and Shawn Simmons. Original directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, and writer Derek Kolstad among the producers.

Albert Hughes directed the first and third instalment while Charlotte Brandstrom directed the second.

The Continental will premiere on Peacock on the 22nd September.
