A rather impressive trailer has emerged for Prey, the next film in the Predator franchise ahead of its August release.
We’ve known for a while that the next film in the Predator series is coming straight to Disney+ here in the UK, with the movie’s true nature leaking even whilst production was still underway, despite the best efforts of all involved to keep it a secret.
Filming took place in the Calgary wilderness last summer with Prey looking to divest itself of the franchise’s penchant for increasingly diminishing returns by taking a back-to-basics approach to summon the survivalist slasher spirit of the beloved 1987 original. The plot is set three centuries ago and looking to follow ‘a character named Kee and her younger brother Taabe. Kee is described as a tomboy, who fights against gender norms to prove that she can be just as strong as any male Comanche warrior.’
Now we have a full trailer to check out and it looks like it could be quite the film. Dan Trachtenberg’s revisionist take has us very interested indeed, and after the low point in the series that was 2018’s The Predator, we’re all in favour of a stripped-back approach to rebuilding the Predator franchise.
The movie stars an ensemble comprised almost completely of Native and First Nation’s acting talent including Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush. You can check out the trailer below ahead of the film’s August release.
