A sequel to Girls Trip is finally moving forward, and the first details of the project have landed.

2017’s Girls Trip was a delightful film, and a breakout comedy as well. The chemistry of the four leads and a strong script resulted in a box office revenue of over $140 million.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, a sequel is now in the works (although it’s taken its time). Not much has been revealed at this stage, but Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the first film, revealed on a Variety podcast that the plan is to set the action in Ghana, with the ladies attending the iconic Afrochella festival.

This also seems to confirm that all four leads – Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish – are on board.

Producer Will Packer is also returning, although it is not yet clear whether director Malcolm D. Lee or co-writer Kenya Barris will be back. Oliver has not yet submitted the script, so it could still be some time before it goes before the cameras.
