We still donā€™t know whoā€™s directing the next James Bond film, so of course why not throw Martin Campbellā€™s name into the mixā€¦.

Believe the rumours and Eon Productions is finally starting to nail down some key personnel for its next James Bond movie. It’s been three years pretty much since No Time To Die landed in cinemas, and since then, there’s been precious little obvious movement on James Bond 26.  We certainly don’t know who the next 007 is going to be, although Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently the running favourite to succeed Daniel Craig. Yet there are now reports that a director appointment is imminent.

Over the last few years, we’ve had rumours of Christopher Nolan, Yann Demange and Bart Layton being considered, and one or two of them may still be under consideration. You can cross Nolan off your scorecard, mind.

The emerging favourites appear to be Kelly Marcel (who’s just directed the third Venom movie), Edward Berger (he of All Quiet On The Western Front and upcoming awards magnet Conclave), David Michod (Animal Kingdom) and possibly still Demange.

Yet a face from James Bond’s past has now returned. It’s unclear how much substance there is to this, but it feels almost inevitable that Martin Campbell’s name is in the mix.

Campbell is the man who’s rebooted James Bond on the big screen twice (so far), with 1995’s Goldeneye introducing Pierce Brosnan to the role, and 2006’s Casino Royale marking Daniel Craig’s debut.

Martin Campbell is now 80 years old, which may or may not be a factor, but it certainly isn’t stopping Ridley Scott. Given that Campbell has four films to his name this decade already, his energy levels seem far superior to mine. Would he want to go back? No idea. Maybe itā€™s just part of the rumour mill process, that he gets his name thrown back into the mix.

As for Eon Productions, radio silence remains the order of the day. As and when that changes, we’ll let you know…
