Sons Of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst is set to take on the role of Kratos in Prime Video’s God Of War series. More details below.
The hunt for Kratos for Prime Video’s God Of War series has finally come to an end. Sons Of Anarchy actor Ryan Hurst will portray the god in the new series from showrunner Ronald D. Moore as Deadline reports.
An adaptation of the video game of the same name has been in development for some time now, but it’s only in the last year that it’s finally started to move forward. The game follows Kratos and his son Atreus as the two journey through an alternate version of ancient Greece to spread the ashes of their wife and mother.
The God Of War franchise consists of several games, but the one being adapted is the 2018 one that acted as a bit of a reboot for the franchise. Stargate SG-1’s Christopher Judge portrayed Kratos while Sunny Suljic played Atreus. There’s no word on who might be Prime Video’s Atreus but we’d expect news on that soon now that Hurst has been cast as Kratos.
Hurst is best known for Opie in Sons Of Anarchy, but interestingly, Hurst also played the god Thor in the 2022 sequel to the 2018 game, God of War Ragnarök. Hurst even received a BAFTA Award nomination for his work on the game.
Prime Video has already ordered two seasons of the new show, but it’s likely that those two seasons are needed to tell the entire story of the first game. If the series is successful though, more seasons might be coming our way.
The Boys and Shōgun alum Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes of God Of War with Moore writing the series as well as acting as showrunner and executive producer.
Prime Video hasn’t given God Of War any kind of release window yet, but with Hurst’s casting, things seem to be moving forward and hopefully the series will go into production sooner rather than later.
